I hope you’re gonna enjoy as much as I did.

清水寺【Kiyomizu-Dera Temple】

As I said before, Kiyomizu-temple is one of the famous temple in Kyoto-hu, Kyoto-prefecture.

In Japan, there is an old famous idiom 「清水の舞台から飛び降りる」which means doing boldly as if you were jumping down from the Kiyomizu-no-Butai’ which is a common saying used when people make a bold decision.
The Kiyomizu-no-Butai is a stage in front of the main temple of Kiyomizu-temple.

In addition, Kiyomizu-temple is a world heritage which has a lot of important cultural property.

Grounds of a temple precinct is so huge that it takes almost 1 hour to walk around there.
But when you finally go there, it’s also good and nice to walk and see without haste.

I think an hour is not enough to go and see some places that I’ll introduce below.
Let’s check them out!!

The magnificent main gate is 14 meters tall and 10 meters wide and is known as Akamon or Vermilion gate due to its beautiful color. The gate is flanked bu 3.65 meters tall statues of the Nio, the Buddha’s two guardians who protect the temple.

When you come to Kiyomizu, you can see Nio-mon first.
This gate is very big and vivid red and vermilion color, so this is known where we should take a picture in front of here lol
Very very instagramy lol

三重塔【Three-Storied Pagoda】

The beautiful vermilion pagoda was built in 1632 and is 31 meters high. The inside is not open to the general public. It features richly colored esoteric Buddhist paintings as well as celestial maidens and dragons painted on the ceiling and pillars1).

You’ll be absolutely surprised how beautiful and brilliant the three-storied Pagoda is.
This is also instagramy too lol

随求堂【Zuigu-Do Hall】
Next to 三重塔【Three-storied Pagoda】, there is 随求堂【Zuigu-Do Hall】which gives us an interesting thing called 胎内巡り【Tainai-Meguri】.

It represents the mother’s womb.
Inside you can’t see anything because of completely dark so you hold on to the string of Buddhist rosary beads and go ahead with them.

When you proceed inside and see the Buddhist letter on the stone in the dark, you can pray for only one wish that it’s said that your wish which you pray inside of it comes true.

When you come back to the blighter world from the dark world, you can feel like being reborn and feel gratitude for your mother.

It’s so interesting and you can never experience like this aside from there!!
You should try it before you go to 本堂【Hondo】!!!

After you’ve passed through the approach,  you walk through 轟門【Todoroki-Mon Gate】!!
This is also a Cultural Important heritage in Kyoto.
Then you’ll enter 本堂【Hondo】called 清水の舞台【Kiyomizu-no-Butai】.

As I said before, this is the most famous spot in Kiyomizu.
Height is 12 meter (40 feet) from the ground, so you feel like you might fall down from here when you’re on the Kiyomizu-no-Butai.
I feel scared sometimes lol (Below picture: I took last year)

Anyway, Don’t you have a question that there is an idiom ‘清水の舞台から飛び降りる’ which means Doing boldly as if you were jumping down from the Kiyomizu-no-Butai.

In fact, there is an old story that your wishes definitely come true if you can arrive when you were jumping down from the Kiyomizu-no-Butai. And also you can go to Heaven if you died.

But now Kiyomizu-no-Butai is being under restoration work until 2020, so you can’t see the whole picture of it. But you can go into the Kiyomizu-no-Butai and see inside.
I think you’ll have a lot of impact from it and so it’s enough worth seeing it.

Ottawa no Taki
In Kiyomizu-Dera Temple, there is a famous waterfall called 音羽の滝【Otowa no taki】, which has three kinds of flows, and each flow of waterfall gives divine favor to the study, the long life, and the love.
Drink from them to make your wishes come true.

It is spring-water that has been flowing for more than 1000 years.
And also the name of the temple, Kiyomizu-Dera(Pure water temple), comes from this spring-water.

I still have lots of things about 清水寺【Kiyomuzu-Dera Temple】】, so I’ll tell you more specific information on next post!!! I hope you guys enjoyed this post as much as I did!!
